Project Theme

We will be creating software that allows users to easily manage their digital images. The software will be designed to run on a device, called Replica, that integrates a color LCD touchscreen, a CompactFlash media reader, a USB port, a microprocessor, and RAM. Since the hardware we envision does not exist, we will create abstractions that allow us to simulate the device properties.

Features

Our software will offer the ability to:

Interact through an intuitive user interface designed for a handheld device
Use simple gestures to navigate through images, show or hide meta-data, and zoom
Create, modify, and store "albums" of images
Store and delete images and associated meta-data (date created, caption, keywords, etc.)
Place a given image into zero or more albums
Cycle through images in an album
Search for images based on meta-data fields
Preview albums based on thumbnail or index views
Access context-sensitive help

Platform and Special Needs

We plan to create this software on a Linux-based system. We will develop either in C++ or Java.

We would like to request a Vadem Clio PC Companion (http://www.clio.com). We would like this device because it most closely resembles the device we envision our software running on. Furthermore, a Linux port exists for the Vadem Clio ().
